Waterfalls in Slovenia
Slovenia is a land in which there are 260 known waterfalls. These natural pearls are perhaps not given sufficient attention because of the abundance of other attractive tourist destinations. However, here will be presented a few of the most beautiful and famous of them which are also accessible to visitors – lovers of nature.
BOKA WATERFALL (Julian Alps)
At the end of the gorge beneath the southern slopes of Kanin by the Bovec-Kobarid road is hidden Slovenia’s largest waterfall, Boka, with a fall of 106 meters. One of the most powerful and magnificent waterfalls in Slovenia.
WATERFALLS IN THE VICINITY OF VRANA AND KRN (JULIAN ALPS)
The wild world of waterfalls above the Soča valley is very beautiful but only accessible with great difficulty. Of the 11 waterfalls here, we will mention only Gregorčič falls, 88 meters high and Brinta waterfall, 104 meters.
SAVICA WATERFALL (JULIAN ALPS)
One of the most famous and most visited waterfalls is the 60 meter high Savica waterfall, the source of the river Sava Bohinjka, which erupts into daylight over the steep walls of Komarče (Bohinj). The source is accessible.
PERIČNIK WATERFALL (JULIAN ALPS)
The path leads from Mojstrana towards Aljažev dom in Vrata to the steep trough of the 52 meter high Peričnik falls. During severe winters, Peričnik freezes, creating magnificent pillars of ice.
VINTGARSKI ŠUM WATERFALL (JULIAN ALPS)
The path trodden by the most visitors from nearby Bled leads to Bled Vintgar. Picturesque Šum, only 13 meters high but hidden in one of the most delightful corners of Slovenia, is part of the roaring, constricted river Radovna.
ČEDCA WATERFALL (KAMNIK AND SAVINJA ALPS)
In addition to the wealth of waterfalls in the Julian Alps, it is also worth mentioning the less well known Čedca above Jezersko, in a picturesque glacial valley, closed by the toothed mountain ridges of the Kamnik and Savinja Alps. Its 130 meters make it the highest of all the Slovene waterfalls.
SAVINJA WATERFALL (RINKA) (KAMNIKAND SAVINJAALPS)
The waterfall lies in magnificent Logarska dolina (Logar valley). The Savinja falls 90 meters in a narrow ray.
ŠUMNIK WATERFALL (POHORJE)
In the forest oasis of north-eastern Slovenia, on verdant Pohorje, the most beautiful waterfall is undoubtedly Veliki (Large) Šumnik on Lobnica. This 24 meters high waterfall is accessible from three directions.
